Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium ‘roots’ which, when placed in the upper or lower jaw, bond with the bone, thus acting as anchors for the replacement teeth (implant crowns and bridges). Dental implants look, feel and function like your natural teeth and have a high success rate for tooth replacement. The medical grade titanium implant fuses to living bone and can prevent bone loss and shrinkage of the jawbone which aids in maintenance of function and appearance.

As a practice, we have been involved in implant-based solutions since their inception. Where indicated, you can be assured an implant option will be considered. Dental implants are a very predictable way of retaining a replacement tooth or teeth. They do, however, require careful planning and execution.

As prosthodontists, we prescribe and manage the logistics of implant planning and restoration. We work with other specialists (periodontists or oral surgeons) who will place them. Simple implant placement can be provided at our surgery to reduce time and cost to you

Where needed, we will digitally plan and the produce 3D printed surgical implant guides for the surgeon. Unfortunately we are seeing more and more patients suffering complications from poorly executed dental implants, sometimes due to inexperienced or overseas dentists. The substandard dental work and use of implants that are not approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia, can result in considerable pain, infection and failure after only a short time. For these reasons, it is important to check the qualifications and experience of who is providing the treatment and that adequate pre-planning has been done for your specific case.
